My Favourite Part of Business
One of my favorite parts of running Just Bookkeeping has nothing to do with spreadsheets, reconciliations, or financial reports.
It’s the relationships.
This has always been the case with each of my businesses.
This weekend, I met with a client I have had for awhile, in person, and I left the meeting thinking…this is my favourite part!
Not transactional.
Not distant.
Not “send over the documents and I’ll get back to you.”
Real relationships.
Even though my business is primarily virtual, I’ve found that genuine relationships can absolutely be built through a screen, a phone call, or years of consistent communication. And when I do get the opportunity to meet clients in person, it’s a reminder of how much trust and connection has already been built along the way.
When you work closely with business owners, especially growing businesses, you end up being part of some very personal moments. You see the stress behind the scenes. The late nights. The cash flow concerns. The excitement of growth opportunities. The fear that comes with hiring, expanding, signing a lease, or making a major investment.
Over time, trust gets built in a way that goes far beyond bookkeeping.
My clients trust me with the financial side of the businesses they’ve poured everything into. And I don’t take that lightly. I get to help them make decisions with confidence, organize the chaos, and create clarity during seasons that can feel overwhelming.
But the part I value most is that many of these relationships stop feeling like “client relationships” at all.
We celebrate wins together.
We problem solve together.
We check in on life outside of business.
I think small business works best when relationships come first. When people genuinely care about the businesses they support. When communication is open, trust is mutual, and clients feel comfortable asking questions without judgment.
That’s the kind of firm I want to build.
Because at the end of the day, bookkeeping isn’t really about numbers. The numbers are just the tool. The real work is helping people feel supported enough to grow the business they’ve worked so hard to build.
